Yes Taming came first (of course). So Kiss Me Kate was the musical version. 10 things that was the teenage version. Most (if not all) names be withheld. However, the end was somewhat modernized to reflect a feminist sensibility.
Yes, that makes a lot of Hollywood. A couple who did come to mind: "West Side Story," "Romeo and Juliet," "Clueless" was written by Jane Austen's Emma, "and of course this excerpt from" The Taming of the Shrew taken.
